In an era where the conversation around cannabis/hemp is rapidly evolving, the HempClub project emerged as a beacon of innovation and advocacy during the recent United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) meeting held in Vienna from March 14th to 22nd. Czech hemp cluster CzecHemp’s members Lukas Hurt and Hana Gabrielová represented the HempClub project, helping stir up global dialogue on cannabis.
First, Hana presented to the Cannabis embassy assembly of about 30 representatives from leading cannabis NGOs worldwide who gathered in Vienna already on 13 March, one day prior to the CND opening. Hana’s presentation introduced the HempClub project’s vision, initiatives, achievements and the transformative potential of hemp in various sectors, including medical, agricultural and industrial.
HempClub’s presence at the CND was further amplified through the strategic distribution of HempClub leaflets and posters throughout the Commission’s duration. These leaflets served as a vital tool in disseminating information about the project’s goals.
Networking was also a crucial component of HempClub’s strategy at the CND. Lukas and Hana engaged in dozens of meaningful conversations with stakeholders, ministers, and representatives of hundreds of different organizations. These interactions provided a unique opportunity to discuss the status of cannabis / hemp and its development globally, share insights, and explore potential collaborations.
The response from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for HempClub’s innovative approach and the depth of knowledge shared during the presentations. The project’s initiatives resonated with the global audience, highlighting the growing consensus on the need for a more nuanced and informed perspective on cannabis/hemp.
The success of HempClub’s participation in the CND meeting in Vienna underscores the project’s role in shaping the global conversation not only at the European level.
Members of HempClub participated in the CND side event “Cannabis & Biopiracy,” hosted by Fields of Green for ALL and co-sponsored by SSDP, that explores the unauthorized appropriation of genetic resources and traditional knowledge, particularly focusing on Cannabis and its economic vulnerability to biopiracy. This event shed light on the legal implications and conservation efforts surrounding Cannabis genetic resources and traditional knowledge and the traditional uses of hemp in rural tribe communities around the world.
