Hemp, an ancient crop with a myriad of applications, stands at the forefront of sustainable innovation and economic diversification. The discourse on hemp has gained significant momentum, driven by its promising role in sustainable agriculture, renewable resources, health and wellness, textiles, construction, and numerous other sectors. Its low environmental impact, rapid growth cycle, and diverse applications position hemp as a cornerstone in the transition toward a more sustainable and circular economy.
The HempClub project recognises the importance of hemp in driving sustainable innovation in numerous sectors and for this reason works to unlock the potential of hemp by creating EU value chains for biobased applications and new business opportunities for primary producers and chemical companies.
Despite the growing interest and optimism, hemp still faces challenges due to a complex policy landscape, diverse regional regulations, and misconceptions. The objective of this Policy Forum is not only to uncover the untapped potential of hemp, but also to tackle regulatory obstacles, encourage evidence-based policymaking, and foster collaborative strategies for a unified approach in Europe.
The event’s focus is on the current European hemp legislation and the status of the countries involved in HempCluB, including Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, and Austria. Moreover, three specific topics will be addressed: the CBD and cannabinoids regulation, the current legislation, incentives and obstacles to the recycling and upcycling of textiles and fibers, and the harmonization of the legislation in the building sector.
We aim to gather in our sessions a diverse group of stakeholders to exchange ideas and share best practices to maximize the awareness of the benefits of hemp while ensuring responsible and sustainable practices. Our objective is to turn these discussions into practical policy recommendations that stimulate growth, innovation, and societal well-being across Europe.
